Standing in Line to Support Israel

“And now, Israel, what does God, your Lord, ask from you but to fear God, your Lord, to walk in all His ways and to love Him and serve God, your Lord, with all your heart and all your soul.” Deuteronomy 10:12

There are so many people standing in line to support Israel, in fact fighting among themselves to have the privilege who will be able to defend the Jewish state, that Israel can really afford to be choosy.

The Carpenter

I am invited to dinner with a group of people who care about Israel at a Christian pastor’s home.

The Christians stand with Israel, no questions asked. Not all Christians, of course, but many do. It started with Pope John Paul II whom Israelis will always remember with deep fondness and great appreciation.

Those Progressive Liberals

Israel National News reports about the Israeli Presidential Conference taking place now in Jerusalem. Judea and Samaria Council’s chairperson Danny Dayan and J Street executive director Jeremy Ben-Ami participated in a panel discussion about criticism and loyalty in the relations between Israel and the Diaspora.

Dayan asked Ben-Ami: “When, recently, did you do a simple act for Israel, one which every child understands is for Israel and does not require a philosophical roundabout explanation?”

Why is this moment in time so pivotal? Jews have survived pogroms, holocausts, inquisitions, crusades and all other manners of murder and intolerance.

Why now should anyone worry or assume they cannot endure one more difficult challenge?

Different Standard

There is a monopoly on news and opinions for the Jewish community of Greater Los Angeles in one paper, the Jewish Journal. Not unlike most papers, the Journal’s existence was threatened until recently, when three local philanthropists injected a million dollars into its operations as silent investors.
